£3m player told he is ‘clearly never going to make it’ at Celtic, as transfer exit looms

It’s never an easy road when trying to make a name for yourself at Celtic.

From the outside, as Celtic dominate Scottish football, it might seem easy to play in, but at the end of the day, there is a reason why title after title is being delivered.

One area that has proven to be an interesting debate over the years has been centre-back, and trying to find that consistent pair going forward.

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been the main guy, but even as Brendan Rodgers heads towards season three of his second spell in charge at Celtic, he doesn’t have an answer to his centre-back problems.

And one of Rodgers’ signings has been told his future lies elsewhere.

Gustaf Lagerbielke told he will ‘never make it’ at Celtic

Celtic signed Gustaf Lagerbielke for £3 million during the summer of 2023, including the Swedish international playing in a 1-0 win at Ibrox.

But Lagerbielke has only played ten times for Celtic, and Hugh Keevins has stated that he is ‘clearly never going to make it’ in Glasgow.

Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Keevins also explains that Celtic’s new boy Hayato Inamura also isn’t the answer to the club’s centre-back problems.

“Inamura isn’t going to be a starter,” insisted Keevins. “Nygren will be a starter. Callum Osmand, I don’t think he will be a starter at 19. Ross Doohan will be the third-choice goalkeeper.

“But, for me, there is a very obvious vacancy up front for a good quality striker. There is a very obvious vacancy for a good quality centre-back besides Carter-Vickers.

“Nawrocki (has gone out on loan). Lagerbielke is clearly never going to make it at Celtic, and there is a vacancy there.

“Celtic shouldn’t be starting the season with vacancies. The vacancies should be filled.”

Lagerbielke ‘completes medical’ at Braga

Lagerbielke was on loan at FC Twente in the Netherlands last season, and now, it seems as though his footballing journey is going to take him to Portugal.

That’s because the 25-year-old has ‘completed a medical’ at Braga, and Celtic are set to bank ‘£2 million’ for his talents, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

If this move goes through, then it is probably the right move for all parties because it’s a transfer that just never got going.

And, in truth, if Celtic are only going to lose £1 million on the player, given that he hardly played, then that is also another plus.
