The Azerbaijani Embassy in London has endorsed Camilo Duran’s move to Celtic.

In an unusual move, the Embassy has credited the move in “strengthening the sporting connection” between Azerbaijan and Scotland.

Duran moved to Azerbaijani side Qarabag less than a year ago after a spell at Portimonense in Portugal.

Now, they have turned a significant profit on the forward, who looks set to complete a £5.5 million move to Martin O’Neill’s side.

Azerbaijani Embassy on Camilo Duran joining Celtic ‘strengthening connections’

The embassy posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Strengthening the sporting connection between Azerbaijan and Scotland.

“Congratulations to Qarabag on the record transfer of Camilo Duran to Celtic.”

The move is, as the Embassy mentions, a new record sale for Qarabag, breaking the record set by Brazilian striker Juninho moving to Flamengo.

O’Neill has already said that he sees Duran as a striker, crediting his qualities as a player after Celtic’s friendly against Shelbourne.

He said: “Yeah, I think that Tim Williamson our physio has gone down to meet up with him and I think that that’s going to happen.

“I think that he should join us in Portugal, certainly in the next 24 hours.

“What can he bring as a player? Obviously he’s still very young. I think that what he can do is that I think he can hold up play.

“I think he’s strong in that there, in that department.

“We need a few players. It’s as simple as that. But I do think that he will be a good addition. Famous last words.”

Who will be Celtic’s next signing after Camilo Duran?

Celtic are pushing for the signing of a goalkeeper, as O’Neill has confirmed. Tjark Ernst and Dinko Horkas appear to be the club’s main two targets.

Haissem Hassan has been linked with Celtic, his World Cup performance for Egypt against Argentina certainly won’t have put anyone off.

Elijah Just has also shone at the tournament; the Hoops have scouted him extensively over recent months but will face competition for his signature.

A good way to get more fans on side would be adding Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi, without both of whom last season’s league and cup double wouldn’t have been possible.
