Celtic ‘agree’ to sign winger for £4.5m but there are ‘concerns’ over medical

Celtic may finally be on the verge of a new signing.

The Hoops drew 0-0 with Kairat Almaty on Wednesday evening and fans chanted ‘sack the board’ during and after the stalemate as they blamed the club’s hierarchy for the result.

Celtic need two new wingers to replace Nicolas Kuhn – who signed for Como in July – and the injured Jota who may not be seen on the pitch again until 2026.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha has been heavily linked since last summer, and talks have reportedly been taking place between Celtic and Royal Antwerp since June.

Now, it appears the Bhoys have finally made a breakthrough.

£4.5m fee agreed for Celtic target Michel-Ange Balikwisha

The Royal Antwerp star has reportedly agreed in principle to join Celtic this summer, although internal issues on his side are holding up the deal.

In the meantime, The Celtic Way are now claiming that a £4.5m fee has been agreed between the Bhoys and Antwerp for Balikwisha’s transfer.

However, the report states that there are ‘concerns’ over a Celtic medical because of the player’s injury issues over the past year or so.

Muscle injuries kept him out for long periods last season as he made just 17 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists in that time.

Balikwisha has played four games already this campaign, netting once.

One down, three to go for Celtic?

It’s promising to hear from a reliable source that Celtic are finally on the verge of signing Balikwisha, despite what is being said about a potential medical.

If Balikwisha signs, Celtic would still need another winger, striker and back-up left-back for Kieran Tierney.

Hayato Inamura appears destined to leave on loan, but that may only be sanctioned if Celtic can replace him before September 1.

He wasn’t included in the Champions League play-off squad, with Rodgers stating he is not ready for this level of football yet.

Adam Idah was hooked at half-time against Kairat, further reinforcing the need for a striker who can score 20+ goals a season.
