Celtic are considering allowing another player to leave the club this summer.
As news circles that Marco Tilio will stay at Celtic until another winger is recruited this summer, it appears that the Parkhead club are still open to allowing other players to make their exit.
Brendan Rodgers is supposedly looking to bolster his defence as Celtic look to bring Jahmai Simpson-Pusey to the club.
‘And if that deal goes ahead, it could allow the departure of Stephen Welsh, who is now the subject of an offer from an English club this summer.

Celtic could allow Stephen Welsh to leave as Plymouth Argyle submit loan bid
Welsh has been in and around the periphery of the Celtic first-team for the past seven years now but has failed to nail down a starting spot.
Now back at Celtic after a loan spell at KV Mechelen, Anthony Joseph has now revealed that Plymouth Argyle are looking to take Welsh down south on a season-long loan.
Taking to X, Joseph said, “Plymouth Argyle have made a loan offer for Celtic centre-back Stephen Welsh.
“Celtic are considering the offer.
“Welsh spent last season on loan at KV Mechelen, who tried to make the move permanent this summer but couldn’t reach an agreement with the Hoops.”
With another loan spell on the cards and two years left on his current deal, at 25 years of age, it’s clear Welsh doesn’t have a long-term future at Celtic.
How many times Stephen Welsh has left Celtic on loan
Having signed a professional contract at Celtic in 2018, Welsh has made just 86 first-team appearances for the Parkhead club with the majority of those from the bench.
Welsh has been sent out on loan before and here is how he has got on during his temporary Celtic exit:
- 2019/20: Greenock Morton – Welsh made 18 appearances all in the starting line-up
- 2024/25: KV Mechelen – 17 appearances for the Belgian club with just two from the bench
It’s clear Welsh has talent but with his injury issues and lack of game time at Celtic, he clearly needs to leave the club to further his career.
