The transfer window isn’t open yet, but with the dust settled on another season, work is being done to bring in new faces to the club.

A domestic double is a great season for any club but for Celtic, there is a tinge of disappointment.

Defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final was lambasted due to the Bhoys’ lacklustre performance, with supporters urging Celtic to be busy in the summer transfer window.

A striker seems to be the most important acquisition and target Mathias Kvistgaarden appeared to say goodbye to Brondby fans.

However, reports suggest that a player familiar to Luke McCowan could be on the way to Celtic Park this summer.

Celtic in talks to sign Josh Mulligan

Strength in depth seems to be a priority for Brendan Rodgers too and with quotas to fill from a European registration perspective, will look locally to find the appropriate players.

Ross Doohan is returning to Celtic for registration reasons and according to EFL Analysis’ Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Josh Mulligan of Dundee is in talks with the Bhoys.

Mulligan can play in midfield and also operate as a wing-back, making him a solid squad option.

Celtic’s three-man midfield is set in stone, providing Arne Engels doesn’t leave for Atalanta and Reo Hatate also remains in Glasgow, while Alistair Johnston holds down the fort at right-back.

It comes after Paul Slane told Celtic to sign the ‘excellent’ Mulligan earlier this season during his appearance on the Open Goal podcast.

Who is Josh Mulligan?

Josh Mulligan is a 22-year-old midfielder who can also operate as a wing-back, playing for Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

He came through the Dundee academy and has made over 100 appearances for the club, scoring six goals since making his debut in 2018.

One player he will know well is McCowan having played with the boyhood Hoops fan when he was a player at Dens Park.

The 22-year-old is out of contract and has been linked with Rangers too and his former manager Tony Docherty told the BBC in May that it “doesn’t surprise” him that he has been linked with high-flying clubs.
