Deluded Ally McCoist names transfer who would’ve won Rangers title over Celtic after Philippe Clement sacked

That’s another Rangers manager Brendan Rodgers has seen off from the Celtic dugout.

From Rodgers’ first spell to now, more Rangers managers are passing by – six in total – than Glasgow derby wins over the current Celtic boss.

It’s now the turn of Barry Ferguson to take on Rodgers after he was named interim until the end of the season – this will be a great laugh!

Heading into the midweek fixtures in the Premiership – Celtic host Aberdeen – the champions are 13 points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

Despite Celtic losing to Hibernian over the weekend at Easter Road, they still managed to extend their lead at the top via goal difference because the Gers were beaten by St Mirren at Ibrox.

Barring a collapse of the highest order, Ferguson has returned to watch those in green and white colours lift another title – and, hopefully, it will be as sweet as the last.

The former midfielder would have witnessed Celtic’s dominance as a pundit over the years, but now, he will have to watch it first-hand from the dugout.

However, one of his former teammates, Ally McCoist, seemed to have entered into a world of delusion following Philippe Clement’s sacking.

Celtic told Rangers would have won the Premiership title if they signed Lawrence Shankland

Last season, Lawrence Shankland was ripping it up at Hearts and he was being linked to, not just Rangers, but also Celtic themselves.

The 29-year-old, whose contract at Hearts expires in the summer, has fallen off a cliff this season because he has netted only four league goals after scoring 21 in 32 last term.

But a deluded McCoist was ‘genuinely’ adamant that, if Clement had managed to sign Shankland last January, then the title would have headed to Ibrox, as he told talkSPORT.

“I actually think, last year, if they had gone and got Lawrence Shankland,” said McCoist. “I think they might have won the league. I genuinely do.

“In the window of last January, I think if they had gone and given Hearts whatever they wanted, then I think Shankland might have scored the goals that won Rangers league.

“It wasn’t to be. Celtic are back and deservedly won the league and that was that.

“But the decline in the club, on and off the pitch, since they won the league, and were beaten on penalties in a Europa League final, after beating Leipzig, Dortmund, you name it, the decline hurts more than anything. It hurts to see.”

Brendan Rodgers was right about Rangers

Time and time again, there is more noise about what Rangers are going to do, and in the end, nothing much happens.

Only last December, Rodgers spoke the truth about how he always hears that ‘Rangers are coming’.

“Over my two spells here, I’ve worked against five Rangers managers and every time, Rangers were coming,” said Rodgers before the New Year.

“Every time, at some point. So, for me it’s normal. Like I said the other day, if I listen to the media and the press, then we would be in constant crisis mode and fear of Rangers.

“But it’s the fifth manager now, so for me, my focus is only on Celtic and concentrated very much on here. A lot of the stuff that maybe does go around, thankfully, I ignore it.”

Thankfully, the man in Celtic colours does his talking on the field because he has wiped the floor with Rangers again and again.
