Celtic are closing in on the signing of Shin Yamada.
The Japanese striker has been linked to Celtic for a number of weeks and yesterday, Yamada’s departure from Kawasaki Frontale was announced by the J League club.
We discussed yesterday how Yamada’s Celtic medical was close ahead of his move to Glasgow and now, Rodgers has confirmed just that.
Speaking after Celtic beat Sporting CP, the Celtic manager shared what he really thinks about Yamada as Rodgers admits his medical is close.

Brendan Rodgers breaks silence on Shin Yamada’s Celtic move
Rodgers has been on the hunt for a new striker since the departure of Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi in January.
The Celtic boss dismissed Odsonne Edouard rumours last night but did confirm Yamada is now on his way to the Hoops.
Rodgers told The Scottish Sun, “He’ll have a medical over the next couple of days and we’ll have a look at him.
“We’ve lost a lot of goals so we need to replace that. Hopefully this can be one of a number of players we can bring in that aspect.”
What Brendan Rodgers really thinks about Celtic-bound Shin Yamada
Celtic fans will admit that Yamada is a relatively unknown quantity. But at 25, the Japanese striker cannot be regarded as a project player either.
So what does Rodgers think about the Celtic-bound striker?
Rodgers continued, “He’s got intensity and work rate. It’s something the scouts have seen.
“In terms of the club, we will bring in players to develop and players for now. Even though he’s a bit older, he’s probably one of those that can give us that intensity and pressure.
“I need to look and see him when he comes in and hopefully he can do well. The idea was to bring him in and assess him.
“He’s a strong boy – but we’d want to add to our front line also.”
