Celtic had a very interesting and unexpected January transfer window.

Usually, teams don’t plan to do a lot of business in the winter, but Celtic found themselves in the thick of the action, including being linked with Aston Villa’s rising star, Louie Barry.

The 21-year-old, who was once on the books of Barcelona, was ripping it up on loan at League One side Stockport County, before his parent club called him back.

At Celtic, Brendan Rodgers was in the unfortunate situation where Kyogo Furuhashi decided to leave, so it left the champions-elect in a spot of bother and looking for some attacking power.

Several names were suggested and linked, from Rodgers’ former player, Danny Ings, to unknown forwards across Europe.

There were also strong links to Barry, before he joined Championship side Hull City until the end of the campaign, but Celtic have got lucky here.

Yes, Celtic were put in a pickle when Kyogo left, but that doesn’t mean you panic or think that quantity needs to arrive for the sake of it.

That’s proven by the club not pushing for Barry to join because he has been a bit unfortunate since moving to Hull.

Barry suffered a knee injury four games into his Hull loan – that was back in February – and since then, he has been sidelined.

In the winter window, the only attacking talent to join Celtic was Jota, as he made a return to where he made a name for himself.

Just like Jota, Barry can also operate on the left flank, and had the Villa man joined, then they would have been competing for places.

But, whilst Celtic will still search for that striker in the summer, Jota has still put in a few strong displays since coming back.
