Clyde 1 presenter shuts down Greg Taylor wages claim at Celtic from what he knows

Greg Taylor’s future at Celtic took a bit of a twist over the weekend.

It seemed very likely that Taylor was going to leave Celtic in the summer when his contract at the Scottish champions was going to expire.

But then, Taylor put in a Man of the Match display against Kilmarnock, and Brendan Rodgers came out fighting his corner.

It seems to have given a bit of life to the 27-year-old’s future at Celtic Park, with the 2024/25 season now weeks away from coming to a close.

This has rumbled on for months and months, with Kieran Tierney’s return also seemingly adding to the possibility that his fellow countryman will leave.

But one possible suggestion behind Taylor not putting pen-to-paper at Celtic was quickly shut down on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

Greg Taylor’s wages claim at Celtic shut down

It has been suggested that Taylor wants ‘£25k-a-week’ to sign on the dotted line at Celtic, but that was debunked by Gordon Duncan.

The Clyde 1 presenter, who also works on Sky Sports, stated that he ‘doesn’t believe’ those suggestions to be accurate from what he understands.

Duncan made it clear that he ‘doesn’t know’ how close to that suggested wage demand that Taylor wants, but it isn’t what is being reported.

“What I would say is that I don’t believe that £25k is accurate,” said Duncan. “What I will admit and hold my hands up is that I don’t know how close.

“But I think that’s not the right number. That’s how I understand it. I remember the story, whatever it was, so I won’t pretend it’s half that or whatever, because I don’t know, but it’s not 25, as far a I know.”

What is ‘worth’ doing with Taylor at Celtic

When the big crunch games arrive, such as the Champions League matches or playing the Glasgow derby against Rangers.

That’s when the negative noise around Taylor really starts to mount, but Gordon Dalziel wanted to defend the left-back signed by Neil Lennon in 2019.

Dalziel explained that it is ‘worth’ sitting down and trying to keep Taylor, because he proved against his former club over the weekend, how much of a valuable player he could be.

“I will go back to Greg Taylor,” stated Dalziel. “I don’t know about Greg Taylor’s wages. The only thing I know is that Greg Taylor brings a lot to Celtic. He really does.

“I think, sometimes, he gets a little bit of unfair criticism. That happens to players. But I think he plays that role so, so well. You look at the weekend, he got the stadium’s Man of the Match.

“I think Greg Taylor is worth sitting down and saying, ‘right, okay, what is your price?’. Celtic will have their value for him. Greg Taylor will have his own value. I totally agree, I think he will play second fiddle to Kieran Tierney.

“But the amount of games Celtic play. They need a squad and good back-ups. They need good options on that bench. If Greg Taylor is still in the building, and Tierney is playing as the left-back, then you have a good option on the bench.”
