The Jamie Vardy link to Celtic is one that has split opinion amongst the Hoops support.

With Brendan Rodgers extremely keen to bolster his Celtic front-line, for many fans signing Vardy would make complete sense, even if he is 38.

With Premier League experience, international caps for England and being a free agent, Vardy could be a good short-term stopgap for some Celtic supporters.

However, for others, they reckon Celtic should avoid the player at all costs.

But it seems that Vardy’s future could be set to be decided as a Serie A club make ‘first contact’ with the Celtic-linked striker.

Serie A club makes ‘contact’ with Celtic-linked Jamie Vardy

Vardy has been linked with numerous clubs as rumours that a potential move to Celtic swirl.

However, despite all the speculation, there has been no concrete move by any club, until now.

Sky Sports Italy reports that Cremonese have made ‘first contact’ with Vardy as they look to negotiate a deal for the former Leicester City striker.

Taking to X, Sky Sports said, “Cremonese idea, Jamie Vardy for the attack. First contact with the free agent player.”

With Celtic in the market for a striker, it seems that Vardy may well now not be one of them.

Jamie Vardy to Celtic: Our view

To put it simply, this is a move Celtic should avoid. The financial resources that are likely to be required would make this deal a no-go anyway for the Parkhead board.

Vardy was on circa £80,000 per week at Leicester before he left the club in the summer and is likely to command at least half that when he eventually signs for a new club.

Celtic would be better investing that into a player who has a long-term future and resale value at the club and, hopefully, Cremonese get the deal done to stop this rumour before the transfer deadline day hits.
