You would think the drama had ended after the full-time whistle at Celtic Park on Wednesday night!

It was nervy and action-packed, but in the end, Celtic beat Young Boys to book their ticket into the play-off rounds of the Champions League.

After several Kyogo Furuhashi goals were ruled out for offside in the first-half, including a saved Arne Engels penalty, it was an own goal, minutes from time, that did the trick for the champions of Scotland.

Everyone in green and white colours could breathe easily. The drama was over, but that’s never the case in the world of Celtic.

As fans were making their way back home, news started to break about the future of Celtic superstar, Kyogo.

Kyogo started Celtic’s win over Young Boys and he would have been kicking himself amid those tight, yet correct offside calls.

But now, Sky Sports are reporting that the Scottish champions are close to agreeing a £10 million deal with French side, Stade Rennes, for Kyogo’s signature.

In a separate deal, there is even a possibility that Jota could return to Celtic. He is on Rennes’ books after leaving Saudi Arabia, but he has been frozen out as soon as he joined last summer.

It has been suggested that Celtic are open to Jota coming back, but the deal would have to be done separately.

Why Kyogo wants to leave Celtic amid Rennes talks

Whatever happens, Kyogo will go down as a Celtic legend and nothing will ever change that, after joining the club from Vissel Kobe in 2021 when Ange Postecoglou was in charge, scoring 85 goals and winning a host of trophies.

But, the 30-year-old wants to represent Japan at the 2026 World Cup and he feels he needs to be playing for a ‘top five league’ in Europe to increase those chances, wrote Sky journalist, Anthony Joseph on Twitter.

The Japan boss, Hajime Moriyasu, has previously been critical of the Scottish league, so every fan will understand Kyogo’s need to move, so he can get the best chance to represent his country on football’s biggest-ever stage.

“Rennes are in advanced talks to sign Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi for £10m,” wrote Joseph.

“Kyogo is keen to join a top 5 league club to enhance his chances of playing in the World Cup with Japan.”
