Celtic finally have a new striker in the building, and it’s a relief to all, no more so than for Martin O’Neill.
Just as Celtic were in Italy for their Europa League clash against Bologna on Thursday evening, back in Glasgow, the club were announcing the arrival of Tomas Cvancara.
All season long, Celtic’s squad has failed to impress, and one man who has been part of that difficult journey has been summer signing, Sebastian Tounekti.
When discussing Cvancara’s loan signing, O’Neill, sitting next to Tounekti, shared how those from within the dressing room are feeling about it all and the current status of the squad.

Should Tomas Cvancara start against Hearts this weekend?

Martin O’Neill speaks for Sebastian Tounekti on Celtic’s squad as Tomas Cvancara joins
Without trying to put words into his mouth, O’Neill stated that Tounekti would tell you that Celtic’s squad ‘needs supplementing’, and this signing from Borussia Mönchengladbach was very much needed.
Celtic play Premiership leaders Hearts on Sunday, and it remains to be seen whether O’Neill will throw Cvancara straight into the starting XI.
Either way, you sense this is Tounekti’s chance to build an on-pitch relationship with his new teammate and take his own game to the next level.
“That would be nice (the deal for Cvancara),” said O’Neill in his Celtic press conference.
“I think Seb (Tounekti) here would say that ‘the squad needs supplementing. We need some help from.’ And that was nice, I must admit.
“We have some time still left to try and get a few more players in, if it’s at all possible. I hope that it will be.”
Has Sebastian Tounekti got what it takes to be a Celtic winger?
Tounekti’s numbers for Celtic this season
When you compare someone like Tounekti to Michel-Ange Balikwisha, a stark difference becomes apparent.
The Tunisia international gets involved in play frequently, and he is a strong carrier of the ball.
But he is missing that killer touch and instinct in front of goal, which he needs to take to the next level, and perhaps a regular goalscorer will bring that out of him.
