Charlie Mulgrew admits one Tomas Cvancara factor could change his Hearts vs Celtic prediction

Celtic’s signing of Tomas Cvancara could have a big bearing on the Hoops beating Hearts on Sunday.

That’s according to Charlie Mulgrew who thinks that if Celtic don’t get a striker this week, their chances of a win in the capital will be slim.

Celtic’s pursuit of Cvancara has been swift after the Bundesliga striker agreed terms with the Parkhead club this week.

It looks like we finally have our striker… what are your first impressions of Tomas Cvancara

On his way to complete a Celtic medical, the Czech striker could play in Sunday’s clash with Hearts as Cvancara’s Bhoys announcement could be as early as tomorrow.

And that could be enough to sway Mulgrew, who had lingering doubts about Celtic going to Tynecastle to beat Hearts this weekend.

Mulgrew not confident Celtic can beat Hearts, but with a caveat

The former Celtic defender was chatting to Kevin Thomson about the top of the table clash when he admitted that he was worried about the Tynecastle trip.

When asked if he fancies Celtic to beat Hearts, Mulgrew said on The Breakdown, “I don’t. It’s the one game where I think it suits Hearts so much.

“I feel at any time they’ve proved it this year. They’ve played Celtic and Rangers twice each, and beat them.

“They don’t suit being in possession. I think it suits them to be out of possession. They’ve proved it the last two games they’ve played most of the games with 10 men.

“They’ve sort of got that mentality where they’re a battling team that, when they come up against Celtic and Rangers, they almost feel like the underdogs. And whatever McInnes says to them, it’s clever from him.”

Tomas Cvancara signing could inspire Celtic to beat Hearts

With all the rumblings going on about Celtic’s lack of strikers, Mulgrew only thinks a win in the capital is possible if the Bhoys make that elusive signing.

Mulgrew continued, “I don’t fancy Celtic. It’s a right tough game, especially if they don’t have a striker in the door.

“I think what would give them a huge lift this week, is if somebody was signed before the game. I don’t even think it’s necessarily the guy coming on and making an impact and scoring a hat-tick.

“I think it’s what it does to the rest of the team. So all of a sudden the rest of the team go, ‘Oh, here we go’.

“You’ve then got Callum McGregor going, ‘Right, we’ve got a new player, a name in the building. Let’s go and let’s show him I’m a good player. Let’s show that we’re a good team’.

“Everybody around about gets a lift.”

Thankfully for Celtic, it appears that Cvancara is just hours away from being named as Martin O’Neill’s first signing in over 25 years.

And if the players get the lift that Mulgrew expects, then hopefully a big Celtic win is on the cards this weekend.
