Celtic’s midfield isn’t functioning as well as Brendan Rodgers would like right now.
To be fair, it’s not just the midfield that is looking off-colour, but so is the forward line, with Celtic making several changes over the course of the summer.
One man who was tipped to join Celtic is Lennon Miller, after he had a breakthrough campaign at Motherwell last season.
Talk of Miller possibly joining Celtic started as early as the January transfer window, but in the end, he secured a move to Udinese in Serie A.

Open Goal panel on Lennon Miller joining Udinese over Celtic
Speaking on Open Goal, after Paul Slane interviewed with Miller in Italy, he was asked by Si Ferry if there were any talks with Celtic.
Slane told the panel, which included Andy Halliday and Dylan McGeouch, that ‘there was a chance’ of the transfer happening.
But instead, a transfer of close to £5 million was concluded between Motherwell and Udinese, and the Open Goal panel discussed whether or not he would have got minutes at Celtic.
Ferry: “Was there any talk from anyone about Lennon Miller at Celtic?”
Slane: “I think there was a chance there, aye.”
McGeouch: “Do you think he goes in and plays in that team, though?”
Ferry: “Maybe not now. But maybe get minutes instead of McGregor.”
McGeouch: “I know what you are saying, he’s really young and he has good potential. But is his potential going to be hampered by going to Celtic? He doesn’t go and play 40 games at that team.”
Halliday: “Lennon is probably honest enough to say that’s probably why he wanted to go away. He wanted to go and play. I think he felt the same.”
McGeouch: “The same with the Lewis Ferguson’s, and that. At that time, am I going to play 30-40 games, in that team, that is really strong when I came from Aberdeen?”
How is Miller faring at Udinese?
One positive for the 19-year-old is the fact that he has got off the mark – scoring in the Italy Cup against Palermo.
But what’s interesting is that, so far, minutes, even off the bench, are proving to be hard to come by for the teenager.
Of course, it’s still early days, but considering some suggested that Miller shouldn’t join Celtic because he wouldn’t get into the team.
Well, that’s proving to be the case in Udinese so far.
- Games: 3
- Goals: 1
- Starts: 1
- Off the bench: 2
- Unused substitute: 4
- Total minutes: 124
