This was bubbling for months, but Daniel Cummings’ departure from Celtic is done and dusted.
Back in the winter, Brendan Rodgers handed Cummings his Celtic debut against Aston Villa in the Champions League.
That was a big thing from the Celtic manager, and it was a clear sign that the club was trying to do everything they could to keep the young striker on board.
But, during the January transfer window, it was suggested that Cummings would secure a move to West Ham United ahead of the summer – and the player was never seen again in the green and white colours.
Fast forward to the present, and with Celtic expecting a busy summer transfer window, Cummings has completed his medical and ‘the deal is done’, according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
And it’s the same old story for the Celtic Park faithful.

Celtic fans are unhappy with Daniel Cummings’ exit ahead of West Ham move
The issue the Celtic supporters have is that any player coming through the ranks who showcases any strong potential is taken away pretty much straight away.
You had it with Ben Doak when he joined Liverpool, and now Cummings has gone.
The reaction is pretty clear from the Celtic fans on social media. They are asking, what is the point of the youth team, and it might as well be ‘scrapped’ if young players continue to be taken away.
@CelticFanZone20 made his feelings pretty clear: ‘Constantly losing our young talents 👎👎’
@marcerunlu explained the issue with Cummings’ exit: ‘Hard to have a youth system when at the first opportunity they chase the 💰💰’
@68c6c8f2872948f had a suggestion: ‘Scrap the youth team’.
@_RH88_ doesn’t think it will end well for Cummings: ‘Queens Park are getting a good striker in 4 years!’
Another call to scrap the youth, as @JohnMac___ added: ‘Celtic may aswell scrap the academy, Stephen Welsh was the last notable player to break into the first team for a while. Before covid’.
@RokTheKasper with an interesting take: ‘Reeks of Karamoko Dembélé’.
@RlEoin is now worried what might happen to other youth players at Celtic: ‘What’s the actual point man, every year our “best talent” leaves for buttons Praying we don’t make this same mistake with McArdle, boy looks a player, as does Bonner’.
@TheCelticWay3 didn’t hold back: ’30 goals in the Scottish 5th tier Fab. He’ll disappear into another EPL academy, never to be seen again, just like every other kid that’s jumped for money in the last 5 years’.
@NorthStandNiall wants more players to act like McGregor and Forrest: ‘It’s not a case of Celtic letting these boys go, they can’t keep them with the money they are offered, eg Doak. It’s sad to see them leave but there aren’t enough Calmacs and Forrests around’.
@pupster67 thinks Celtic did all they could to keep Cummings: ‘I’d guess Celtic did all they could to keep him but his head has been turned by his agent and the premiership golden ticket’.
The next Callum McGregor and James Forrest?
Celtic captain Callum McGregor had that loan spell with Notts County before properly breaking into the club’s first team.
But, other than that, he has repped the Hoops for his entire career, as well as one-club man, James Forrest.
| Player | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| McGregor | 518 | 74 | 80 |
| Player | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forrest | 528 | 110 | 110 |
Forrest is Celtic’s most decorated player of all time, and McGregor isn’t far behind, but you wonder when the next player of that ilk will emerge?
When they are leaving like Cummings, and heading down south, then Celtic fans might have to wait for a long time to see another McGregor or Forrest coming through, and that’s a big shame.
