There has been a lot of change for Celtic in the forward areas during the last seven months.
In truth, quite a lot of it, from Brendan Rodgers’ perspective, is unwanted, from Kyogo Furuhashi’s winter sale to the long-term injury of Jota.
Then you add in the fact that Celtic have also added to their final third during the 2025 summer transfer market, including the signing of Benjamin Nygren from FC Nordsjælland.
On top of all that, there has been some noise around the future of Hyunjun Yang, but why aren’t Celtic selling a player who is yet to make a true mark on the champions of Scotland?

Why Celtic aren’t selling Hyunjun Yang despite Norwich City interest
Pre-season has been interesting for Celtic this summer, especially the role Nygren has played in that number eight position.
Charlie Mulgrew noted that, including how he thought Nygren was going to play out wide, but if he doesn’t, then Celtic need ‘two wingers’ this summer.
That then means Celtic can’t sell Yang, according to Mulgrew, even if Celtic would be willing to let him go, as he told Go Radio.
Paul Cooney asks: “What did you think of Yang when last week the word was and speculation that he might go to Norwich, but after the game at the weekend, the manager said, ‘he will still be an important player in the squad, as things stand.'”
Mulgrew responded: “I said last week that they need a winger, but after they played Ajax, you see Nygren playing as a number eight midfielder. You are thinking, ‘is that where he is going to play?’
“Then you would think that they would need two wingers. I can understand why they aren’t letting Yang go because you can’t let wingers go when you haven’t got wingers in the building, or wingers ready to start and make an impact.
“So, if Nygren is going to play as a number eight in the midfield area, I thought he came in as a winger, then you need another two wingers, so you need to keep hold of Yang until you get replacements.”
Yang’s numbers at Celtic
Funnily enough, Yang has looked pretty good in pre-season, including scoring two goals against Newcastle United and Ajax.
There is a shout that Yang should start for Celtic against St Mirren on Flag Day on Sunday.
But if the South Korean star does stay, then he needs to improve on the numbers he has been producing since joining the club for £2 million from Gangwon FC in 2023:
