Chris Sutton issues harsh criticism of Celtic’s Viljami Sinisalo amid his actions vs Kilmarnock

Viljami Sinisalo is now starting to get comfortable in Celtic colours following his summer transfer from Aston Villa.

If there were any positives from Kasper Schmeichel’s injury, then it’s the fact that Celtic’s back-up goalkeeper has started to get a taste of first-team action.

In terms of real pressure, it isn’t there in the Premiership because the title is almost done and dusted.

But that doesn’t mean that the final Glasgow derby of the campaign, which happens after the split, as well as the Scottish Cup semi-final, won’t provide everyone with an ample chance to see what Sinisalo is truly about.

On Saturday afternoon, Celtic thrashed Kilmarnock and edged closer to title number 55.

Including Cameron Carter-Vickers’ stunning goal, the home side were 4-0 up in next to no time, before Danny Armstrong netted in the 29th minute.

After watching back the goal 24 hours later, Chris Sutton was rather critical.

Chris Sutton questions Viljami Sinisalo’s role in Kilmarnock’s goal against Celtic

You can’t argue too much against Sinisalo, he hasn’t done too much, if anything wrong, and so far, life has been looking steady.

But Sutton, speaking on Sky Sports Football (13/04/25), sure found a harsh way to criticise the former Aston Villa player, and the role he played in Danny Armstrong’s ‘cross’ goal.

What was also interesting is that Sutton stated that this was supposed to be a ‘big game’ for Sinisalo.

“He (Danny Armstrong) didn’t mean it,” Sutton. “Actually, Viljami Sinisalo. It’s a big game for him, and he didn’t get his feet going.

“I thought he should have judged the flight of the cross a lot better there. That’s what it was. A cross.”

Sinisalo is racking up the experience in Celtic colours

You never know what is around the corner, so Sinisalo should be enjoying these moments and matches, especially with Schmeichel set to stay for the next campaign.

But it’s rather harsh for Sutton to criticise Sinisalo, because the proper test will come against Rangers after the split, as well as the Scottish Cup semi-final, and final itself if Celtic get there.

That Killie goal was more luck on their and Armstrong’s part, rather than it being a fault of the keeper.
