Brendan Rodgers is set to face Bayern Munich at Celtic Park in the Champions League knockout stages.

The Celtic manager has earned a glamour tie against the Bundesliga giants after Celtic beat Young Boys to book 21st place in UEFA’s final Champions League group standings.

And now that Celtic have earned that glamour tie against Bayern Munich, pundit Tam McManus has chipped in with his ‘opinion’ on Celtic’s transfer window and the Parkhead club’s chances of beating the Bundesliga club.

Tam McManus’ verdict on Celtic’s transfer business ahead of Bayern game roasted by fans

Taking to social media, McManus gave his verdict on the transfer window as the former Hibs man completely misses the point about Celtic fan anger towards the transfer window.

McManus said, “Celtic could have signed Mbappe & they won’t beat Bayern over two legs. The league is over. Scottish Cup to play for and Celtic have enough in the building to win that/Treble.

“January window is very hard to do business as most clubs don’t want to lose their best players/get rid of out of favour players who aren’t playing.

“Wise move is to wait until the summer and get real quality in instead of buying anyone to appease the fans. Just my opinion.”

It’s fair to say that view was not shared by many Celtic supporters as one replied, “Would it not be fair to say that, knowing for months Kyogo was likely to go, the club should have had a striker lined up for January? With Champions League qualifiers looming in July/August, surely it’s better to have a new striker bedded in as early as possible…no?”

Another Hoops fan replied, “Just because you “won’t beat Bayern over two legs” doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try to beat Bayern over two legs.”

One Celtic supporter made a very good point:

Another Parkhead supporter fired back, “Ok Tam, so what’s the point of being in the CL at all with that attitude? Might as well not bother. Plus, if Celtic have given up, why are they charging me & my lad over £80 to watch a team just not bother?”

One Celtic supporter nailed it with this reply:

And finally, this Celtic fan was spot on with this, “It’s not about the Bayern game Tam. It’s about the bigger picture. A centre forward bedded in for next season’s Champions League qualifiers.”

What people at Bayern Munich are saying about Celtic clamps Tam McManus’ ‘opinion’

Bayern Munich’s players are certainly not treating this game as a gimme as Serge Gnabry said he expects a ‘difficult’ night at Celtic Park.

Board member for sport, Max Eberl told Bayern’s official website, “Anyone who knows football knows that Glasgow’s Celtic Park is an extraordinary stadium in Europe. We’re really looking forward to the game there and the two legs against a good opponent.

“It’ll be two great games of football for fans. Celtic are about passion and fighting spirit. It’ll be a big challenge. Our goal is clearly to progress to the last 16. We’ll have to give everything in the two legs to do that.”

Finally, the Bundesliga club’s sporting director Christoph Freund said, “Celtic play good football and have been a major side in their league for years.

“They’re also in very good form. In addition, there’s the emotional atmosphere inside Celtic Park. We’re looking forward to two great games.”

So whilst McManus has given up on Celtic, the fans haven’t and maybe, just maybe if the club did sign a decent striker in January, they could have given themselves a better chance against one of Europe’s best clubs?

Just a thought, Tam.
