Craig Burley has the perfect message from the United States for sacked Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy

It’s fair to say that Celtic won’t be knocking on the MLS door again for another coach.

Celtic have previously gone left-field with their coaching picks, as Ange Postecoglou and his success in Scotland is a prime example.

But the Wilfried Nancy tenure was completely different, and chaotic, for all the wrong reasons, to say the least.

It has been interesting hearing and reading the reaction from the United States of America to Nancy’s sacking after just 33 days, as Craig Burley was straight to the point on ESPN.

If Wilfried Nancy was to be sacked, who would you want to become the next Celtic manager?

Craig Burley reacts to Wilfried Nancy’s sacking at Celtic

Some in the States have tried to defend Nancy’s sacking, and how it was harsh, but not Burley.

The former Celtic player understands the immense pressure of what footballing life can be in the hotbed of Glasgow.

It seems as though Nancy didn’t grasp this, and it’s why his ill-fated reign only lasted eight games, as Burley stated that he simply ‘wasn’t up to the task.’

The US-based pundit tried to explain that it’s all good being a coach in the MLS, and for the Columbus Crew, but it’s a ‘completely different beast’ at Celtic.

“In some sense, I feel a bit sorry for the guy,” said Burley. “He went in, it’s a great opportunity. We saw what it did with Ange Postecoglou. Built his profile up, and got a big job in the Premier League.

“I feel a bit for him, but losing six out of eight at that club, it just can’t happen. If somebody says to you, ‘Here is the job, go in and lose your first six games out of eight,’ You would say, ‘I am not sure I could do that.’ And he’s done it.

“The fans were killing him. Some of the board members. The recruitment has gone as well. It wasn’t just him. I think three or four staff, all on two or three-year contracts. And the head of recruitment has gone. The board are a shambles.

“Unfortunately, that job was, Columbus Crew. Major League Soccer. Fine. But that’s managing a completely different beast. And he just wasn’t up to the task, unfortunately.”
