The Hoops look likely to win the title at a canter and that is before any January transfer movement into Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers does want firepower this window, though, with a striker and a winger on his shortlist of incomings before the February 3 deadline.

Kyogo is set to leave for Rennes this weekend with a deal almost done and that has perhaps come as a blow to the support who will miss his goals.

So that makes another forward a priority with Mathias Kvistgaarden a Celtic option as well as Aston Villa’s Louie Barry.

Jota is close to a Celtic transfer return

For Kris Boyd, though, it’s the soon-to-be Hoops wide player that seems to be giving him the most cause for concern.

Jota is closing in on a sensational Glasgow return in a deal only held up at this point by Storm Eowyn and the inability right now to fly into Scotland.

It’s a deal sure to excite the punters but spook the rivals with the superstar from Portugal known as a Rangers slayer during his first stint with Celts.

Boyd was on Sky Sports punditry duties for the January transfer window and he was asked if the news of Jota‘s imminent return had “ruined his night”.

However, in true Boyd fashion, the retired striker tried his best to laugh it off and – through gritted teeth – acknowledged how good a signing the playmaker will be and how influential he has been in the past.

Boyd seems nervous about Jota’s Celtic return

“Definitely not, definitely not,” Boyd said with a grin.

“He was a fantastic player there’s no doubt about that.

“To get the move that he got for the money Celtic got and then being able to bring him back for next to – well I’m saying £8million – but what they sold him for there’s a huge gap there.

“I’m sure he’ll want to come back and prove a point.

“But the one for me and I think it would worry the Celtic fans is Kyogo leaving.

“He has been the difference in a lot of games this season, he’s scored a lot of big goals, I get the fact that he’s probably at the stage of his career where he wants to have that one big last move and maybe earn top dollar.

“At Celtic, their model, they’re not gonna break that for anyone.

“To get £10m is good business, but goal scorers are hard to come by and Kyogo definitely comes into that category.

“I’d imagine Celtic will try to do more business other than just Jota.”
