‘Out of order’ – Michael Stewart blasts Rangers fans for ‘distasteful’ Celtic incident at Ibrox

The fallout of the draw between Celtic and Rangers in the Ibrox Glasgow Derby continues this week.

Adam Idah’s goal for Celtic in the second half meant that the spoils were shared inside Ibrox after Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring just before halftime.

The stalemate means Brendan Rodgers halted his mini losing streak against Rangers and Celtic’s lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table remained intact.

And whilst the game passed without any real controversy, it was what happened off the park as Celtic earned a draw at Rangers that has left Michael Stewart fizzing.

There was an unsavoury incident right after Celtic scored where a Rangers fan threw a bottle towards Celtic star Viljami Sinisalo’s goal.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers condemned the incident but Stewart went one step further with grim warning to Rangers supporters.

Stewart told The Scottish Football Social Club [26m], “The biggest concern for me is the launching of Buckfast bottles and stuff like that because there is genuine threat to people.

“I mean let’s not beat about the bush, you could kill somebody. You could kill somebody throwing a bottle like that and that as much as the the TIFOs are are a bit distasteful and they’re absolutely out of order and there’s no need for it.

“It’s the launching of bottles that is of paramount [importance] they need to stamp out.”

This is not the first time Celtic’s players have been targeted by Rangers fans

Indeed. Celtic players have had to deal with this issue on a number of occasions when playing Rangers at Ibrox.

In 2022 a broken bottle littered Celtic hero Joe Hart’s penalty box which the goalkeeper had to personally pick out and remove himself.

There were also incidents where a fan and the coaching staff have been targeted whilst inside Ibrox. Matt O’Riley also had one launched at him after he scored a penalty in the 3-3 draw last season.

Whilst it is important to stress that not all Rangers fans can be held responsible for the despicable actions of the few, this has happened far too often and the Ibrox club must take steps to ensure this incident doesn’t happen again or else Stewarts prediction could regrettably come true.
