What a press conference that was from Brendan Rodgers last week.
The Celtic manager produced an all-time classic because he made his feelings pretty clear, as the most talked-about moment was his comment on a ‘cowardly’ insider.
“It was interesting when I was shown that. My honest take? I thought it was a cowardly action from whoever it is. Was I surprised by it? Not really. I was briefed upon the last time I was here, when I left, and now that I’ve come back.”
What happens next? Something has got to give because, even aside from that comment, supporters want accountability for the abject 2025 summer transfer window.
And now, Peter Grant thinks something could be in the offing behind the scenes at Celtic.

Investigation after Brendan Rodgers calls out ‘cowardly action’ from inside Celtic?
You don’t normally hear from Celtic’s majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond, but surely he has to get involved now, especially given how public all of this has become.
Speaking on Go Radio, Grant is ‘sure’ that an investigation of some sort will happen in the background, but he is just glad the football on the field is doing the talking.
This stems from Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock on Sunday, and that late stoppage-time penalty from debutant Kelechi Iheanacho.
Paul Cooney: “The headlines on Friday were, ‘a cowardly act’, is how Brendan Rodgers described the briefing against him from someone senior in the club. He wanted an investigation. Do you think somebody will be going on in the background?”
Grant: “I am sure there will be. I think Brendan’s focus now will be exactly the way it ended. Seeing the supporters on the pitch (at Rugby Park), with the players, is the best way Celtic could answer the questions that you could answer during the week.
“Seeing the supporters, with the players and delighted to win a game. That’s the way you want to finish your week.
“Let’s be honest, it’s the only thing fans want to see, which is your team winning and being successful.”
Celtic’s push for a Treble
The fans will continue to protest, but as Rodgers mentioned at Rugby Park, it’s now time to get the job done on the field of play.
Last season, Celtic missed out on the Treble by the kick of a football, and given how dominant the club has been on the domestic scene for two decades now, that’s the aim once again.
That continues with Celtic’s trip to Firhill at the weekend when they will take on Mark Wilson and his Partick Thistle side, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals of the League Cup.
Celtic’s next five fixtures:
- vs Partick Thistle (A), League Cup
- vs Red Star Belgrade (A), Europa League
- vs Hibernian (H), Premiership
- vs Braga (H), Europa League
- vs Motherwell (H), Premiership
