Simon Jordan praises Celtic’s Michael Nicholson for his actions amid Wilfried Nancy noise

There was a lot to digest for Celtic fans on Wednesday.

From Peter Lawwell’s resignation, several board members, including Michael Nicholson, spoke out, and then Wilfried Nancy dug a bigger hole.

Before Celtic lost to Dundee United, which just increased the pressure on Nancy because he has lost all his games in charge so far.

Nicholson spoke about Celtic’s current situation through the club’s media channel, and Simon Jordan thinks those actions are already ‘better’ than what Rangers did with Russell Martin.

Simon Jordan reacts to Michael Nicholson publicly defending Wilfried Nancy

Celtic fans had a right laugh with the Martin era at Rangers, but the fact that it has somehow flipped on its head is astonishing to say the least.

But speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan praised Celtic and Nicholson for their actions and for being proactive in backing Nancy, even if they had to.

“Better than what Rangers did with Russell Martin,” said Jordan.

“At least someone has come out and spoken on behalf of the manager, because Rangers did none of that in the circumstances Russell Martin found himself in.

“These guys are responsible for the appointment. They have to defend it. In the same way, the people who made the appointment of Russell Martin at Rangers had to defend their appointment and justify it. They are just doing it in a public domain.”

How many more games are you going to give Wilfried Nancy?

Martin O’Neill would have won the ‘majority’ of games Nancy has been in charge of at Celtic

What makes Nancy’s reign much worse is the fact that Martin O’Neill had done so well after Brendan Rodgers left at the end of October.

Not only did O’Neill win all of his domestic matches, but he also produced impressive wins against Rangers in the League Cup semi-final and then away at Feyenoord in the Europa League.

And if O’Neill had stayed on, Jordan thinks the outcome of the results Nancy produced would have been far different.

“Wilfried Nancy, there is an old business motto, which is ‘keep it simple, stupid,'” stated Jordan.

“You didn’t have to do very much. You just had to, perhaps, use the base that Martin O’Neill gave you.

“Martin O’Neill didn’t walk on water. He isn’t a miracle worker. He got a group of players facing in the right direction in a sub-standard league. That might have sub-standard Celtic players.

“But those sub-standard Celtic players are still better than most of the players in the other teams in the league that they are playing in.

“So, they should be able to get outcomes. They proved the point. I think Martin would have won the majority of the games, with the exception of perhaps Roma.”
