You would have to go back to the playing days of Ally McCoist if you want to highlight a period where Rangers were better than Celtic.
For the best part of over two decades now, Celtic have dominated proceedings in Glasgow, and it seems as though history is going to repeat itself.
Even though the 2025/26 Premiership season is only two games in, there is already chaos and dejection at Ibrox because Rangers have made their worst league start since 1989.
Over the weekend, Celtic moved four points clear of the Gers, and McCoist was getting reminded about it on the radio in ways he didn’t like.

Ally McCoist on ‘narrative’ around Celtic and Rangers title race
Some bookmakers are already paying out because they think Celtic will win title number 56 in May, and it seems as though certain people at talkSPORT are feeling the same.
McCoist explained how the talkSPORT producers are ‘trying to push the narrative’ that ‘the title race is already over’, and it’s fair to say that he didn’t like any bit of it.
“Obviously, I have to speak on Rangers, as the producers are trying to push the narrative that the title is already over,” said McCoist. “Poor, lads. Very poor behind that window.
McCoist then has to read out: “Celtic continued their perfect start to the new season. They won two games, man. What’s going on, ‘perfect start’?! He is trying to wind me up in there.
“Meanwhile, Russell Martin made unwanted history at Rangers, as they failed to win in their opening two league games for the first time since 1989, which I probably was responsible for, drawing 1-1 against Dundee. Is the title race already over? Give a break, come on!”
‘You can’t argue’ with what Brendan Rodgers has done at Celtic
After Celtic’s 2-0 win over Aberdeen, Rodgers was hitting out at his critics and how there are sections of people who ‘don’t really like’ him.
The Irishman has won four trophies since returning to the club for a second spell, as McCoist defended the Celtic manager, including how ‘you can’t argue’ against what he has achieved in Scotland.
“After the game, Rodgers hit back at those who ‘don’t really like him,'” added McCoist.
“Yeah, interesting one. I am listening to Brendan there, do you think that goes back (to his first tenure) perhaps?! Because you can’t argue with what Brendan has achieved at Celtic.”
