Ligue 1 side ‘approach’ Celtic over Kyogo as Atlanta face £10m transfer rivals

The January transfer window is in full flow and the rumours are flying.

Celtic want attackers in the door while Brendan Rodgers may also want more than one winger and a striker with Mathias Kvistgaarden being named as a possible option.

The Dane told Brondby he wants to leave which opened the door to a potential Parkhead switch after Celts scouted the player as recently as November.

But for the £12.5million-rated attacker to come to Glasgow, it is likely Rodgers would have to sanction a sale and Kyogo is the player who has received plenty of interest in recent times.

Atlanta have been linked with Kyogo and are reportedly willing to spend £10m on the 29-year-old hitman.

Manchester City were previously touted as Kyogo admirers but eventually that link was shot down.

Celtic’s Kyogo has interest from Rennes in Ligue 1

Now, according to Ouest France, Rennes have emerged as the latest club hoping to sign the Japan international.

The publication claims “discussions have been established between the parties” and that the Ligue 1 outfit are very keen to land the Celtic man as a matter of urgency.

They report that it has become a “strong possibility” that Rennes may well sign Kyogo as manager Jorge Sampaoli is a fan of his profile.

Celtic don’t want to sell Kyogo who has been a star in Glasgow since he arrived from Vissel Kobe on a near-£4million deal back in 2021.

Brendan Rodgers recently laid his cards on the table about Kyogo amid the speculation surrounding the player as he said he won’t keep anyone at the club who does not want to be here.

How many Celtic goals has Kyogo scored?

That does not necessarily represent Kyogo’s feelings on his future.

Captain Callum McGregor shared what he felt was Kyogo’s point of view on the rumour mill surrounding his talents as the skipper insisted his teammate continues to give his all every match.

Either way, Celts can likely expect their resolve to be tested where their attacker is concerned should the right fee for him arrive.

Kyogo turns 30 this month.

The striker has notched 85 goals for Celtic in 163 outings and provided 18 assists.
