The six-figure transfer fee that could see Johnny Kenny leave Celtic to join Millwall

It isn’t a surprise to hear that Johnny Kenny could head for the Celtic exit door this summer.

Not only was Kenny loaned out to Bolton Wanderers in January, where he helped Steven Schumacher’s side earn promotion to England’s second tier, but Celtic have also recently signed striker Camilo Duran from Qarabag.

With that in mind, Alan Nixon has now suggested on Patreon that Millwall have joined the race for the Irishman’s signature.

Kenny is currently nursing a knee injury, sustained at the back end of the recent campaign when Bolton earned promotion via the League One playoffs.

But now the sought-after striker could be sold for as little as ‘£850k’, according to Nixon.

Does Johnny Kenny have a long-term future at Celtic?

It’s interesting because Kenny recently stated he can ‘definitely’ score 20 goals for Celtic over the course of a campaign.

This clearly suggests that he still has aspirations to play for the champions of Scotland.

But with Duran now in the building, suggestions that Kelechi Iheanacho could return, Kieron Bowie has also been spoken about, as well as Callum Osmand coming through, it just seems as though the writing is on the wall for Kenny.

Yes, it’s a surprise that only ‘£850k’ could seal the deal with Millwall, who were beaten in last season’s Championship play-off finals by eventual winners Hull City.

But Millwall aren’t the only team keen on Kenny’s services, because it also seems Bolton are still targeting his talents on a permanent deal.

However, it was recently reported that Bolton have one of the lowest budgets in the Championship, so they have to be box-clever in the transfer market as they return to the Championship.

Either way, don’t expect anything to materialise anytime soon because Kenny is still sidelined, and it is expected that he won’t return for a few weeks yet.
