It’s getting to the business end of the January transfer window now.

Celtic know they need a striker with Kyogo on the verge of a £10million move to Rennes.

The Japanese, 30, is already in France to seal the deal and is waiting on Jota being given the greenlight to move the other way back to Parkhead.

It is a move which has forced the Hoops to move fast in bringing in a new hitman despite the fact that Brendan Rodgers has never hidden his desire to bring another frontman in regardless.

Mathias Kvistgaarden is one Celtic target and he directly addressed interest from the Scottish Premiership leaders.

Louie Barry is another who has been linked with a £5m bid seemingly being turfed out earlier this month.

Celtic have been linked with at least four strikers

Another forward, Evan Ferguson, has even been touted as a possible option given the fact that Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler revealed the Irishman would be allowed to go on loan until the end of the campaign.

And now there has been yet another name dropped in on the GO Radio Football Show.

The show’s host yesterday evening brought up ex-Chelsea star Tammy Abraham who has been plying his trade on loan from AS Roma with AC Milan this season.

Speculation in Italy has suggested recently that he has struggled this year with just six goals from 25 outings and five assists to boot.

And that has led to some questioning whether the Rossoneri might cut his deal short and allow him to return to Stadio Olimpico.

That would then leave the door open for Celtic to move for him and Andy Walker reckons it’s plausible that his old club could well move for a marquee loan signing this window to placate disappointed fans over Kyogo.

Tammy Abraham was once described as ‘amazing’ by Mourinho

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Celtic brought in a big name player on loan – someone that we are all familiar with,” Walker said when asked about Abraham.

“Someone who has a good reputation, a good pedigree.

“Whether it’s for the long-term that remains to be seen.”

Abraham may have had a tough time this season but in recent years the 27-year-old has been more prolific.

In 2022 he hit 27 goals for AS Roma on a loan stint under Jose Mourinho and the Portuguese managerial icon was a big fan.

Following one game in particular where Abraham hit a double, Mourinho was full of praise for the England international.

He said at the time: “He played how I wanted him too.

“He won everything, he kept the ball, he provided an outlet, he won the first ball and he gave us an option in behind to push them back.

“We always talk about strikers when they score and obviously tonight was Paulo’s night, but Tammy was amazing.”
