Celtic have been linked with a whole host of names in the striker department this summer.

Brendan Rodgers has a plethora of options in the number nine role but the growing consensus is that there is room for improvement.

The Celtic manager has started Adam Idah in both games while Johnny Kenny has signed a new contract.

Callum Osmand has started well for Celtic B and Shin Yamada is still taking time to get up to speed with European football.

Giuseppe Ambrosino is one of the options Celtic have looked at this season but have faced competition from fellow Italian clubs.

Ambrosino has missed part of Napoli’s pre-season but as the transfer window reaches the final straight, the forward knows what he wants to do.

Giuseppe Ambrosino set to stay at Napoli

The Italy U21 international’s contract expires next summer and he knows that his future is in his hands.

Antonio Conte has a stacked attacking line up that contains the likes of Romelu Lukaku, however, even though it’s a difficult path to the first team, Corriere del Mezzogiorno have revealed that Ambrosino wants to stay.

Cremonese have offered to take the forward on loan with an option to buy after his loan spell in Serie B with Frosinone, where he scored five goals in 36 games.

While his future hangs in the balance, Ambrosino is currently training away from Napoli’s first team as their pre-season campaign continues.

Celtic should prioritise wingers over strikers

If a striker is available for the right price, it’s understandable as to why Celtic would want to bring them in.

However, although Rodgers knows Celtic need new signings, there are other areas that need prioritising.

The wide positions desperately need new recruits. Thankfully, Ambrosino can operate out wide and would fit that bill.

An out-and-out forward though would hint that one of the current striking options are destined to leave Celtic Park, either on loan or permanently.

Panic stations don’t need to set in just yet as there is still time to get bodies in, but identifying the right positions is the most important.
