Celtic fans have watched many great players grace their colours over the decades.

But, in recent times, Celtic have dominated like never before, including winning their 55th Premiership title at Dundee United at the end of April.

Celtic were able to celebrate at Ibrox on Sunday for the final Glasgow derby of the season, with that title win also being four in a row, including the club’s 14th in the last 15 seasons.

That remarkable dominance, added with the crazy amount of Trebles, is something that will probably never be matched again.

One man has witnessed and contributed to the majority of that success, which is why he is a legend beyond words

James McFadden on James Forrest’s Celtic career potentially being ‘over’

James Forrest is Celtic’s most decorated player of all-time, with 26 trophies to his name, and he could make it 27 by the time the season is out with the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen on the horizon.

But James McFadden suggested that there was a period where Forrest thought his Celtic career was ‘over’, but he has continued to showcase his worth.

The former midfielder wanted to give Forrest his flowers, and how he has always remained level-headed amid his success, including how he is still a ‘big player’ for the champions of Scotland.

“No, (nobody has a bad word to say about him), because he goes about his business,” said McFadden.

“Even when he speaks, obviously, he knows he is a good player. But he doesn’t project it or any sort of arrogance at all. Such humility.

“I think he has shown unbelievable character over the last couple of years. At stages, last season, it looked like James Forrest was on his way out and his Celtic career was potentially going to be over.

“But then, he comes into the side and shows what a good player he is. Really give Celtic the kind of lift and injection to get over the line last season.

“The time he has been out this season with injury. His first game back. You know what it’s like, but he has come back. He looks sharp. Quick. He makes good decisions, and I think that has developed over the years for James Forrest. His decision-making has got massively better.

“He is still a huge player for Celtic, and he has shown that in the games he has come on. He has shown just how good a professional he is, because it did look like his career was over.

“I think, when you get older as well, especially given the service he has given to Celtic, that it would have been easy for him to wind down and focus on the next move.

“But that hunger to prove. He is desperate for that goal. I think a lot of people are desperate for him to do it.”

Forrest’s career stats for Celtic

The only man who can now perhaps surpass Forrest’s tally is the man he shares the pitch with on a regular basis – Celtic captain, Callum McGregor.

Other than that, the 33-year-old’s name is etched into the history books forever, and his legacy will only grow as the years pass by post-retirement.

But so far, Forrest is still adding to the incredible numbers he has put up in his career for this boyhood club.
