Celtic consider £8m Kyogo striker replacement who faced Hoops and has five Champions League goals this season

Celtic desperately need a striker before the end of the January transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers has always wanted firepower to add to the returning Jota on the wing.

The move to land a new forward was always set to be accelerated when Kyogo moved to Rennes in Ligue 1 despite the fact that the Japanese hitman asked the club to leave early in the campaign.

It is a move which has left Celtic‘s transfer business slightly open-ended with Mathias Kvistgaarden scouted in person as recently as November in Brondby and Louie Barry signed a new Aston Villa deal before switching to Hull City on loan.

Fans remain keen to discover who they will bring in to fill the Kyogo void especially given a glamour Champions League tie was handed out that Celts learned would be vs Bayern Munich earlier yesterday morning.

Celtic are ‘targeting’ Slovan Bratislava’s David Strelec

The Daily Record have now named a frontman they claim is on Celtic’s watchlist ahead of their announcement of a frontman to silence critics where Adam Idah is concerned.

The Irishman hit the goals trail again with a brilliant brace vs Aston Villa and he will hope to keep his spot in the squad.

But the Record say former Celtic Champions League opponent David Strelec is one that the Hoops are seriously considering as they weigh up their next forward options.

The same publication claims that Middlesbrough are rivalling Celts to land Slovan Bratislava’s Strelec who played against Celts at Parkhead earlier this campaign in the League Phase.

The home side ran out 5-1 winners on the night with Strelec drawing a blank.

It is not the first or only fixture in this season’s elite Euro competition where Strelec has featured and in fact he has struck goals for his club in the top Euro tournament this term.

The 23-year-old has bagged 15 goals for Slovan Bratislava this season, including five in the Champions League and qualifiers.

From the League Phase he has found the net against Dinamo and Atletico Madrid.
