Grading all 10 signings Celtic made across 2024/25 including 8/10 star and ‘inconsistent’ 6/10

Celtic were busy in the 24/25 transfer window, with a grand total of 10 signings made.

Brendan Rodgers strengthened the squad as the Hoops went on to win a domestic double, lifting the Scottish League Cup and then the Scottish Premiership.

All have played their part across the season, with Adam Idah one of three players to score 20 or more this season, as well as two new faces in the goalkeeping department vying for that number one spot.

Playing for Celtic is no easy feat and the Parkhead faithful demand the highest of standards. Some rose to the task with ease, while others still need to do more to prove themselves.

So, with that in mind, 67 Hail Hail has graded the performances of all 10 signings made by the Bhoys.

Auston Trusty – 6/10

Auston Trusty was a late arrival in the summer transfer window and was expected to challenge Liam Scales for a place in the first team next to Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The USMNT international was in-and-out of the starting XI and failed to really hold down a place. He was by no means a flop but he’ll need to do more to prove he can nail down a starting spot and form an integral part of the squad.

Arne Engels – 6/10

Arne Engels was not just Celtic’s biggest signing this season, he was also the club’s record signing.

That hasn’t been taken into consideration when looking at the Belgian’s performances, but the first word that comes to mind to describe his season is inconsistent.

At times, the 21-year-old has been a cut above the opposition but then there’s been games where he has coasted through and looked a yard off the pace. A year of transition can be accounted for – so long as he steps up next season.

Jeffrey Schlupp – 6/10

Brought in to replace the void left by Alex Valle’s departure, Jeffrey Schlupp was always going to play second fiddle to Greg Taylor.

Schlupp was a versatile option who could play anywhere on the pitch and he was okay in patches, but didn’t set the world alight.

There were question marks about his defending and although reports suggest Celtic could sign Schlupp permanently, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we didn’t see the Ghana international again.

Paulo Bernardo – 6/10

After impressing on loan, Paulo Bernardo returned to Celtic on a permanent basis in a £3.5m transfer.

Bernardo has had a stop-start campaign, missing chunks of the season due to injury and also battling to hold down a regular starting spot.

The 23-year-old will be keeping an eye on the future of Reo Hatate and will back himself to take that position if it becomes available.

Jota – 6/10

Jota’s return was an emotional one after he failed to make a name elsewhere. The superstar from Portugal looked surprisingly sharp despite his lack of game time before he suffered a season-ending injury.

Scans from that injury ruled Jota out for nine months and it’s the only reason why the winger has been given a 6/10 as he looked well on course for getting even better.

Alex Valle – 6/10

It was a shame to see Alex Valle’s loan spell cut short as the Barcelona loanee was really pushing Taylor for a starting spot, and looked close to sealing it.

Sadly, his loan was cut short and Valle has since completed a move to Como, initially on loan before joining the Serie A side permanently.

Adam Idah – 7/10

Some Celtic fans may think that Adam Idah has underperformed this season, but 20 goals says otherwise.

Of course, there have been moments where the forward could’ve shown more, but he seemed to step out of the shadows once Kyogo Furuhashi had departed.

A striker is on the wish list for Celtic next season, with Mathias Kvistgaarden and David Strelec the two main candidates on the list.

Viljami Sinisalo – 7/10

Brought in to act as deputy to Kasper Schmeichel, Viljami Sinisalo was expected to sit back and watch on but due to Schmeichel’s injury, was thrust into the limelight.

The 23-year-old stepped up too, keeping clean sheets in half of the fixtures he played and impressed between the sticks.

Sinisalo has number one potential and may be handed that role sooner rather than later.

Kasper Schmeichel – 8/10

Aside from Schmeichel’s mistake against Aberdeen, the number one goalkeeper has been almost faultless.

Schmeichel has kept clean sheets in almost half of his appearances this season and been a breath of fresh air.

Filling the void left by Joe Hart, the 38-year-old has a different style to his predecessor but one that works and has been very successful.

Luke McCowan – 8/10

Luke McCowan is living every Celtic fan’s dream by playing week-in-week-out at Paradise.

Signed on deadline day, there wasn’t much hype around the deal, with McCowan likely to be a squad player.

The midfielder made a mockery of those suggestions though and was an instant hit, displaying great value for money.

In an age where bargains are hard to come by, McCowan surpassed his price tag and rightfully claims a high grade for his first season at Celtic.
